V 1 Gallery (Kopenhagen) was founded in 2002 by Jesper Elg and Peter Funch as a project space for cutting edge contemporary art. In 2004 Mikkel Grønnebaek joined the team and V1 began operating as a commercial gallery, dedicated to the same spirit it was founded on. It represents a select group of emerging and established artists -Danish as well as internationally renowned names. Seeing art as a progressive, profound and competent media for artistic, social and political discourse, the gallery has a desire to challenge both beholders, the norms and itself. V 1 aspires to create a platform demanding nothing but quality and nerve. Yearly the gallery has about 12 exhibitions and participates in about 4 or 5 art fairs.
